Marvel Comics coming to the iPhone in a big way.

Ok, so you might not think this is really big news but….HOLY CRAP!  I used to be a huge comic junkie when I was a kid.  In fact by the time I went to college I was spending about $150-$200 a month on comics (Yes, I know. Sad but true).  I quit cold turkey as I started college but now…oh man.  I think I just heard my wallet cry a little.  Appleinsider reports:

Marvel Entertainment will help lead the way in exploring a brand-new frontier for content on the iTunes Store. Coming soon to an iPhone or iPod near you: motion comics.

“Watch and hear your favorite comics, authors and artists come alive,” Marvel says on its Motion Comics webpage, where fans can find a preview trailer. “Remaining true to the heritage of panel-by-panel graphic storytelling, boasting groundbreaking graphics, sensational soundscapes and, of course, the explosiveness of the Mighty Marvel Universe, here comes the all-new, all-awesome Marvel Motion!”

Awwwwwwww SNAP!  I can hardly wait and you KNOW we will give you a full report and review on The App Guys (which the first episode is almost done by the way)

4 new brower apps for the iPhone/iPod touch

safarilogoIn some intersting news from Macrumors, today 3 new web browser apps have appeared in the iTunes app store.  Here is the excerpt from Macrumors:

“A partial list of these new applications include:

- Edge Browser (Free) – No loss of screen real estate to the address or navigation bars.
- Incognito ($1.99) – Now you can browse without leaving a history of any kind.
- WebMate:Tabbed Browser ($0.99) – Web Mate simplifies browsing by queuing up all the links you click on, then allowing you to view them one by one when you’re ready.
- Shaking Web ($1.99) – adds a sophisticated algorithm to compensate for small hand shaking to allow for easier reading.

This could open the door for mobile versions of prominent web browsers such as Opera and Firefox, though there remain other SDK restrictions that could prevent full-featured versions of those browsers from appearing. Still, Apple appears to be loosening some early restrictions they had applied to the App Store approval process.”

Two questions come up as far as I’m concerned:

1. Does anyone know if any of these browsers are using webkit?  One would think that would be the case.

2. If this is the case, is this a small sign that webkit is slowly becoming the web standard?  I mean, if Microsoft is concidering web kit…why not?

Any thoughts?

Qik for iPhone – coming to the app store?

Ok, now if this really is coming out you can bet that we will implement this somehow for the Smackdown.  We would certianly use this somehow to do a live stream of the show.  Tell us what you think.

iPhone app of the day – Spore Origins

sporeOk ok.  I admit, I don’t pay for a lot of apps.  But on the same day, Spore Origins and Star Wars the Force Unleashed came out and to be honest I went with the one that would be “less” adicting.  I just don’t have enough time in a day to devote to something that will suck me in too much.  However, Spore Origins will do enough to suck you in to be distracting to your schedule.  Great game!  I think my favorite part is the stepping from primordial ooze and traveling through the different levels.

It is a great time and if you are looking for a game to buy, this one is sure not to dissabpoint.  Now if anyone can tell me how to get past level 29 I will be a happy camper.  Enjoy!

Apple extending NDA to rejection letters – this looks bad

Ok, as much as I hate to talk negative about my favorite tech company, this is reallly giving Apple a black eye.  MacNN reports:

“Apple is looking to keep developers quiet on the subject of App Store rejections, according to claims. Reports say that Apple is now adding more labeling to rejection letters, appending them with the clause that “the information contained in this message is under non-disclosure.” While discussion of details in iPhone development is generally restricted, numerous developers have complained publicly about rejections without repercussion.”

And if that wasn’t worse enough:

“The most recent of these is Angelo DiNardi, who says his MailWrangler app was rejected in late August. The app lets users quickly switch between multiple Gmail accounts without having to log in and out of each one. Apple refused to host the app, however, saying it “duplicates the functionality of the built-in iPhone application Mail without providing sufficient differentiation or added functionality,” and that it could cause confusion. This mirrors reasons given for the blocking of Podcaster, which was said to mimic iTunes too closely.”

read this and more gorey details here. I think this is going to be the next topic.

iPhone app of the day – Hanoi

Ok, here is the first free game that I’m going to post and I have to say I’m really hooked.  There is something about this game that I can’t put down.  It’s a bit stratagy, a bit logic, a bit….I don’t know…it’s just really fun.  The idea is to get all of the coins from one end to the other.  The trick is you can only stack a smaller coin on top of a larger one.  It gets hard really fast but the challenge keeps making you come back for more. Enjoy!

iphone app of the day – File Magnet

Ok, well, my iPhone is doing much better and again thanks for everyone who has helped me with it.  So in the sprit of loving my iPhone again here is another app of the day.

File Magnet is a great app that I use to read PDF’s and text docs with.  Yes, I know I can just email them to myeself and just read them there, but I have always found that annoying.  This app also has a companion app for your desktop where you can drag files to it for download to the iPhone at anytime.  When files are moved to the File Magnet app, the next time you turn on your iPhone and launch File Magnet, the files are wirelessly sucked into the iPhone.  It’s very nice.

It is a $4.99 app but I have found that I use it almost everyday.   Enjoy!

WARNING: this will REALLY drain your battery if you choose to sream you music this way while you are at work and not paying attention…:)

iPhone app of the day – Speed Dial

If you are like me, you like to use your iPhone in the car.  You also may have noticed that the iPhone can be a very dangerous phone to have in the car.  Since everything is touch controlled on the phone I highly recommed getting a dashboard holder and downloading a free app called “Speed Dial”

This app allows you to place contacts in a grid for a simple touch-to-dial operation.  So, in two touches you have the person you want dialed….that simple.

Enjoy!
