Is the new Zune HD going to hit a home run?

zune-logoThis one may make me eat a bit of crow. I was mentioning on Episode #93 that Windows CE is a bad choice for a device to go after the iPod touch. Well, look what just popped up from Gizmodo.

Ok, sooooo, I guess the Windows CE is not that bad after all.  The article and the video suggest that there are some aspects of device that are quite a bit snappier than the iPod Touch or the iPhone.  Albeit a very cool device, is this coming way to late?  We welcome your comments.

Thoughts on the new Shuffle

shuffleSo Apple surprised us today with a new 4 gig shuffle.  No outside buttons save for the one on top to control power and playlist mode.  AND IT TALKS TO YOU!  Apparently it talks to you using the voice over voice from the Mac and on a PC it uses the text to speech female voice from Windows.  I will save my critique of this product until I can drag myself to the Apple store for a try out.

However, I just have to ask…if I use one as my tie clip, is that sad?  Or does it just make me an uber geek?

Anyone think this is a good idea?

Not that I have a formal opinion about this yet myself.  But here is an interesting development in the world of digital video.  From Appleinsider…”Afraid that Apple will gain the sort of lock on downloadable video that it did with music, Sony and a group of video business heavyweights are planning a new standard that would let copy protected movies and TV from any participating service work with many devices..

Officially, the goal is to create an interoperable but still locked down approach to distributing videos online where buyers or renters could simply assume that an online video could work. As long as a device is in the user’s “domain,” content would play. In a presentation on DECE obtained by AppleInsider, Sony also claims that such a system would create a much more consistent rights environment: customers wouldn’t face shifting copy limits if they choose to switch stores, while many stores today are ultimately balkanized.”
