Episode #94 – PreNatal Clones

We discuss the new Project Natel from Microsoft, Zune HD, and the Apple Clones coming to a store near you!  A big thanks to Eric and Mark (Zuney).  Sorry about the live chat page and the chat room problems.  We will certianly work on it for the next show.

Is the new Zune HD going to hit a home run?

zune-logoThis one may make me eat a bit of crow. I was mentioning on Episode #93 that Windows CE is a bad choice for a device to go after the iPod touch. Well, look what just popped up from Gizmodo.

Ok, sooooo, I guess the Windows CE is not that bad after all.  The article and the video suggest that there are some aspects of device that are quite a bit snappier than the iPod Touch or the iPhone.  Albeit a very cool device, is this coming way to late?  We welcome your comments.

Episode #93 – WWDC 2009 Predictions

We talk with Brian Hertizger and Mark (the Zune Guy) Metz about predictions on WWDC 2009 plus some other fun stuff.

A new Zune coming soon? (hey that rhymes)

Mark, you know this article is dedicated to you buddy. :)   According to Engadget, Microsoft seems to be working on the new HD version of the Zune.

Uh. Looks like something is happening — big time — in Zune land. We present what might possibly be your first look at, yes… the Zune HD. In the gallery below, you can see images from what appears to be a forthcoming marketing campaign for Microsoft’s new PMP. We don’t have any word on specs right now, though we’ve got a sneaking suspicion this will have an HD display.

Update: Based on discussions with sources, it’s looking very likely that the device in these images is — in fact — a new Zune on its way to market.

So what does everyone think about this?  I know Mark has some thoughts. ;)

The ultimate “Zune in the wild” pic

OK, we have been wanting people to send us photos of “Zunes in the wild” for quite sometime now.  Since we first brought it up on the show, no one has sent us one…until now.  According to our listener, Mark, this is not a photoshoped or retouched photo.  He claims this is his actual zune with just the border matted out and replaced with red.

WOW!  Thanks Mark!  We really appreciate it.  There really are Zunes out there….cool!

Mark also claims that his is not the ONE Zune download we have been getting.  In fact I do see that there is a time where 2 Zunes have shown up regularly in our download stats.  So if you listen to us on a Zune….WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!

Enjoy the pic.

Anyone think this is a good idea?

Not that I have a formal opinion about this yet myself.  But here is an interesting development in the world of digital video.  From Appleinsider…”Afraid that Apple will gain the sort of lock on downloadable video that it did with music, Sony and a group of video business heavyweights are planning a new standard that would let copy protected movies and TV from any participating service work with many devices..

Officially, the goal is to create an interoperable but still locked down approach to distributing videos online where buyers or renters could simply assume that an online video could work. As long as a device is in the user’s “domain,” content would play. In a presentation on DECE obtained by AppleInsider, Sony also claims that such a system would create a much more consistent rights environment: customers wouldn’t face shifting copy limits if they choose to switch stores, while many stores today are ultimately balkanized.”
